Debra Thomas
Boulder, Colorado
Debra Thomas joined Laszlo & Associates, LLC in 2008 following nine years
of criminal defense practice with the Colorado Public Defender’s Office.
Debra’s entire tenure as a Public Defender was spent at the Boulder office,
where she worked closely with all the Boulder County District Attorneys as
well as the judges on the Boulder County and Boulder District Court bench.
As a Public Defender, Debra’s practice spanned a full range of criminal
cases. Debra spent two years practicing exclusively in the representation
of juvenile defendants and two years concentrating entirely upon DUI and
domestic violence cases. The remainder of her practice at the Public
Defender’s Office focused on felony cases, including property crimes, drug
offenses, and violent crimes. Debra has extensive jury trial experience in
matters ranging from traffic cases to serious assaults and homicide. During
her tenure as a Public Defender, Debra also participated in training and
mentoring new interns and attorneys.
Throughout her career as a criminal defense lawyer, Debra has passionately
dedicated herself to the service of her clients. She is an informed and
committed advocate of community-based sentencing as an alternative to
incarceration. To serve her clients and the community in this way, Debra
sat for one year on the Boulder County Community Corrections Board. In this
capacity, she reviewed the applications of felony offenders as well as
participated on an Audit Committee to review the practices and performance
of the halfway houses serving Boulder County criminal clients. As a
criminal defense attorney, Debra views her role as that of advocate and
counselor, understanding that the disposition of her clients’ cases can have
tremendous impact on every aspect of their lives.
